Urapakkam

Urapakkam is a fast-growing locality situated at the south of Chengalpattu. It is situated on the busy National Highway 45. It is situated between Tambaram and Chengalpattu at a distance of 8 km from Tambaram and 21 km from Chengalpattu. Urapakkam has become the Gateway of Kanchipuram limit on GST Road. The railway line that runs through it separates the place into Urappakkam east and Urappakkam west. Urapakkam is situated near Chennai city limit near Vandalur and supported by a fully functional electricity board and a village panchayat office. It has two sub post offices - one in east and the other in the west. The Rail overbridge opened few years back has contributed to the increase in the real estate prices, the area has witnessed a lot of growth with increase in the number of residential houses, apartments, banks andcommercial shops. Despite abundant growth in many parts of Urapakkam, it lacks even the basic civic amenities such as drinking water, EB and good roads. There is huge water logging in the roads during the rainy season and no roads have been laid in many areas despite the increase in the number of residencies and population. Some colleges in this area are B S Abdur Rehman Institute of Science and Technology, SRM University and Valliambal Engineering College.
